Savigny-lès-Beaune, “at the side of Beaune”, has multiple soils and exposures making it a fascinating commune to explore. The two main areas are divided by a small stream called the Rhoin. On the Beaune side the vineyards are Marconnets, Jarrons, and Narbantons. These are richer wines of the village with a pronounced earthiness, they are the most concentrated Savignys reminiscent of a good Pommard or a village Vosne-Romanée. Across the valley on the Pernand side the vineyards Serpentières, and Vergelesses offer a lighter yet perfumed intensity. The gout de terroir has a distinct minerality balanced by soft strawberry fruit. No matter which area the wines come from they all have an uncanny ability to age but can also be rewarding when young. Some whites are produced but the greatest wines of the village are red. This fun and informative tasting will enhance your knowledge of the excellent red wines of Beaune and give you the opportunity to taste beautifully aged examples.
